Community

Like his view on philanthropy, Shlomo Rechnitz sees community activism as a way of giving back. Everyone needs something, and everyone has something to contribute to the whole. Whether money, time, effort or a smile, there's always something you can do or someone you can help.

With that in mind, Shlomo looks for ways to improve community life for everyone, both within his hometown of Los Angeles and beyond. Past and present endeavors include supporting local businesses in need, opening his home Saturday night for people who require immediate help, refurbishing old cemeteries, assisting groundbreaking communities and ensuring that East Coast schools rebuild after Hurricane Sandy.

Shlomo also believes that everyone deserves a chance. To that end, he and his twin brother Steve support and work with several rehab programs. In many instances, successful graduates of those programs went on to work at TwinMed LLC, where they developed successful careers and rebuilt their lives.

Mr. Rechnitz feels an especial sense of gratitude to US military and law enforcement. He is a proud supporter of the Eagle and Badge Foundation, which provides benefits, support, and assistance to Los Angeles police officers and their families. In conjunction with Eagle and Badge, Shlomo jump-started an initiative that sends a support check of $10,000 to the families of fallen LAPD officers. Additional organizations supporting our men and women in uniform receive backing from the Shlomo and Tamar Rechnitz Foundation, as well.

Without families, there is no community. To that end, Shlomo is a staunch supporter of Bonei Olam, a unique organization dedicated to helping couples facing the struggle and the heartache of infertility. He has spearheaded numerous campaigns for Bonei Olam and served as its International Board Chairman.

Shlomo is also the President of Toras Emes, a Los Angeles day school, and the chairman of the Chofetz Chaim Heritage Foundation.
